TIMELINE JOB DESCRIPTION
2009-2010

Legislative Affairs Chair will:

Serve as chairman with counties’ legislative chairmen to keep the alliance informed concerning existing laws and proposed legislation of interest to the medical profession.

Encourage participation in forums or conferences concerning proposed legislation affecting the medical profession, i.e. Medicine Day at the Capitol, AMA/AMAA National Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C., AMA Candidate School, AMA Campaign School as well as skills workshops.

Encourage contact with both state and national governing bodies when legislation concerning health and welfare is involved.

Endorse or oppose existing laws or proposed legislation only with the approval of the OSMA Advisory Committee

Work with the OSMAA Staff to include a page on the existing Web Site.

Work with the AMAA Legislative Committee Chairperson to implement new ideas.

Review Legislative Updates from AMAA and forward each on to State President, President Elect, County Presidents and County Legislative Chairs.

Contact County Presidents and Legislative Chairs concerning their plans for the year regarding legislative activities:  i.e. activities in preparation for this election year (registering voters, assisting with campaigns, etc.), contacting legislators, watching for the Legislative updates from you/AMAA and getting that out to county members,  plans to attend Medicine Day at the Capitol in February, information on National Day at the Capitol with the AMAA, explain LEAP awards and encourage activities.
